Sport

From Years 7 - 12, students at Cardijn College are given the opportunity to participate in a range of sporting endeavours. These sporting competitions are offered in the form of representative sport (during school hours) and extra-curricular sport (after school or on weekends), as well as inter-school carnivals and state-wide competitions.

AFTER SCHOOL SPORT

Cardijn College has been a member of the Sports Association for Adelaide Schools (SAAS) since 2011. This is the premier school sporting competition available in South Australia. Matches are generally played on Saturday morning or after school for particular sports/divisions. As a member of SAAS, Cardijn offers a variety of sports for our students to participate in. Cardijn College also competes against some of the best schools in the State in the South Australian Catholic Secondary School Girls Sports Association (SACSSGSA) and the School Sport SA association for male football (AFL). OTHER SPORTS ACTIVITIES

Sports Day
Sports Day is held in Week 3 of Term 1 at SA Athletics Stadium. It provides a fantastic opportunity for students to display their athletic ability in a number of different track and field events. Students represent their House and earn points towards the Championship Trophy.

Swimming Carnival
The Middle School Swimming Carnival is held at Marion Swimming Centre in the final week of Term 4. The carnival caters for both competitive swimmers and students who want to earn House points through their involvement in novelty events, water polo, and their display of House spirit.

Catholic Co-Ed Carnivals
Every year Cardijn College competes in the Catholic Co-Ed Swimming and Athletics Carnivals. A select cohort of Cardijn athletes are offered the opportunity to compete against the best athletes from rival Catholic Colleges across the state. Swimming is held in Week 5 at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre, and Athletics is held at the SA Athletics Stadium in Week 9 of Term 1.

House Sport
House Sport competitions are held during lunchtimes throughout the year. Students participate for their House and are often involved in teams with students from different year levels to entice cohesion amongst the Cardijn community.
Term 1 – Soccer/Football
Term 2 – Basketball
Term 3 – Volleyball
Term 4 – Netball

Tenison Woods Exchange
The Annual Exchange between Cardijn College and Tenison Woods Exchange was established in 1987. Since the inaugural exchange, each school alternates as a host school, organising accommodation, meals, social events, and sports management for the visiting school. The sports on offer are volleyball, futsal, netball, Australian Rules football, basketball, debating, and mixed touch football.

Southern Schools Cup
In Term 3 each year, Cardijn College, Woodcroft College, and Tatachilla Lutheran College take turns in hosting a fierce afternoon sporting competition for our Open representative teams. In previous years, the Southern Schools Cup has involved netball, soccer and football (AFL), and we are looking at ways to evolve this wonderful event. The afternoon is an opportunity for the students to compete in a friendly local tournament.

Marist Cup
Our newest competition, the Marist Cup, sees Cardijn compete against our fellow Marist school, Sacred Heard College (SHC), in male and female football. From 2024, we will compete in a number of sports such as Australian Rules football, as well as soccer, netball, and basketball.
